Lisa Gade reviews the 6th generation Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 14” premium business Ultrabook with a slim 16mm chassis, Intel 8th gen Kaby Lake R processors and an optional (incredible) HDR display. The 1.13 kg / 2.49 lb. laptop has an ample selection of ports despite its light weight and slim design: two Thunderbolt 3 ports, HDMI, USB-A, microSD and optional 4G LTE and a headphone jack. It’s durable, has the usual excellent ThinkPad backlit keyboard and trackpad with TrackPoint. It’s available with a full HD matte touch screen, QHD matte display and our glossy QHD 2560 x 1440 HDR (high dynamic range) IPS display supporting Dolby Vision and 100% Adobe RGB gamut.

  1. Very nice review, Lisa. I'm thinking of replacing my old macbook pro (2011) with this X1, do you think it will work flawlessly with adobe illustrator, photoshop and such? Please suggest and thanks!

  2. Looking at the Gen 7 X1 Carbon FHD Multitouch version (for IR Camera), Hopefully we see a review of that soon, would love to get Lisa's input. Hearing that the 4k can get nine hours REALLY makes me want to get the Gen 7, trying to find build quality and battery life in someting small, powerful and reliable has been a pain.

  3. Accessory replacement is a SIGNIFICANT cost factor, especially with modern day products. Please include the durability of things such as the charger in your reviews.

  4. Thanks for this detailed review. Got this laptop for my wife for her school. It should arrive today. Got it with the i7 for 1100 from Lenovo. Cant wait to for her to see it

  5. Is it true that the 2560 x 1440 display resolution results in a smaller "look" for everything that's on the screen if doing business productivity type work? That prolly works great for movie streaming or photo editing, but for workaday tasks with older eyes, should I instead consider the 1920 x 1080 display? Thanks in advance~
