Lisa Gade reviews the Lenovo Legion Y530, a 15.6” gaming laptop with an angular design, tiny display bezels, small footprint and no bling. The 5.1 lb. / 2.3 kg Legion Y530 is available with Intel 8th gen Core i5-8300H and i7-8750H 45 watt CPUs, NVIDIA GTX 1050 and 1050 Ti dedicated graphics (switchable via NVIDIA Optimus with Intel UHD 630 graphics), up to 32GB DDR4 RAM, an M.2 PCIe SSD and a 1 TB HDD. This intro level or “budget” gaming laptop has a full HD 1920 x 1080 IPS matte non-touch display (60Hz and 144Hz options) and a white backlit keyboard. It competes with the HP Omen 15, Acer Nitro 5 and Dell G7.

Does dust and other "stuff" get trapped on the lid things. The indent lines or whatever its called? I realllly want to buy it, but so scared of ugly dust and "stuff" building up in beetween those lines on the lid.

I like your reviews. No nonsense BS, straight to the point and an interesting presentation. Thanks and keep up the excellent work. Thumbs up from SL.

Great laptop, i just
purchase an i7 like a week ago.
Actually I'm a huge fan of the design. Was looking for something affordable that can get my jobs done and play some AAA games when bored but without boring/distracting looks. Got the i5-8300H with 1050 Ti, removed the HDD & the Optane, put M.2 SX8200Pro 1TB + new pair of 8G RAM and using it for my work at the office. No bling and powerful (enough), indeed. The fans always kickin' 100% for 1 or 2 sec every now and then.. even when idle.. kinda annoying in quiet office space.. but after some time I kinda grew up on it. Brought it to some meetings (I'm a Network Engineer) and people was like 'wow cool laptop man'. The LED on the back, man it's cool. It's subtle but enough to 'say' "hey I'm an engineer but I know gaming stuff" without distracting RGB.. Ports on the back made my desk looks neat and tidy. Camera placement is a nose cam and not a very good position for skype for business or zoom or any video conferences, but hey it's there you can use it if you need it. The soft touch material is nice for a few days before it gets smudgy. Keyboard is quite nice to type though not the best. It's powerful enough for anything I worked on it and looks good.
A lot of info in one breath :-). Please recommend me a proper SSD drive brand of say 512 GB to upgrade to from 128 gb, which is in my sons preinstalled version?
I understood it can be replaced with a longer SSD right? OR is there even space for 1 tb SSD?
Is 16 GB Ram sufficient did you say?
Regards
D
Does the X-plane 11 work well on this laptop?
Looks good both by design and configuration.
Whoa! So straight forward… 👍👍👍
I'm all for no-bling but this thing looks like they designed a docking station and forgot to make it detachable
Do multi-touch touchpad gestures work on this?
Does it have a SD card slot
I've just installed MacOs Mojave and it is great except for the battery life
hi, would you recommend this laptop or the lenovo yoga c930, i also saw your video on that ?!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Lisa! Great review and information.

I put in a Western Digital WDC WDS 250G SSD with the 1 TB HDD and 32 gigs of ram and now it rocks. I play Dragon Age Inquisition, Fallout New Las Vegas, Skyrim SE, Mass Effect 3 and Dirt Rally 2.0 with zero issues.
The biggest downside, the fan noise. Its as loud as a fan heater ffs. I tried using it on an intl flight and the attendant moved me to a jumo seat down the back as it was annoying passengers. sucked
Hi, could you please share the calibrated display profile. My display model is
LG LP156WFC-SPD1
There's a better version with GTX 1060 6GB and 512GB SSD
